The Drama Free Zone

There is a great deal of diversity in our professional environment from culture to generational differences, to expectations, and so on. We spend each day dealing with different pressures, stresses and demands which can present with so much drama that you find yourself traumatized. Drama occurs because…and drama can cause… mishandling of situations, can cause destruction of the environment, and its culture, drama can impede progress, cause hurt and deliver stress served on a platter. In this session we shall also take into consideration these perceptions; bullying, eating of the young, the passive aggressive disposition, gossiping, judgments, criticism, and syndical dispositions. We shall take this opportunity to reveal the nature of what drama brings to the table, define and identify drama, prevent it as well as resolve it, and progress towards reinventing a more desirable environment that will increase our productivity and improve our internal and external customer satisfaction because then we will have created 'A Drama Free Zone.'

Anatomy and Physiology of a Leader

It doesn't have to be lonely at the top or does it? Every day you conduct your symphony, you do it with a sense of pride and passion, how often do you leave feeling accomplished? It is amazing watching a Leader maneuver, direct, influence, guide, and inspire and that's just scratching the surface. Keeping in mind that spectators are watching ever note played by your orchestra with the expectation of perfection. The Anatomy of a leader speaks to the traits that make a leader and the Physiology uncovers how this amazing leader functions. Leading is not an easy task, you hit the ground running each day never knowing what challenges to expect your world to produce today. Let's take a moment and marvel at the A&P of a Leader, because it doesn't always have to be lonely at the top.

Our Failure to Communicate

Communication is surely our most underused skill, it is not a matter of fact it is the critical element in every relationship and as we move further into our 21st century our communication challenges seem destined to increase. The intent of this interactive presentation is to reveal and stimulate your thinking – what are some reasons that we fail to communicate, and learn some disadvantages of failing to evoke the three C's. We will enjoy a stimulating conversation all about communication discussing facts such as; it really is not what you say, it is more about how you say it, and silence can scream louder than words and why avoidance is so common. We will share the body's conversation (body language) – and how the eyes can sometimes have a lot to say. Communication or the lack there of can bring just as much harm as good, you get to decide because each day you will make a difference, but what kind "If you knew you could make a difference, what difference would it make?"sm communication is information - we live in an information world our patients, their care givers and our co-workers must be informed, it is critical to all of our sanity.

Delivering Bad News

'Prognosis negative' was the title of an old black and white movie I remember watching many years ago, all to often the movie comes true in the lives of those we serve. We change lives each and every day in one way or another however we do not have the luxury of choosing the results that we must sometimes share with our clients and their families or caregivers, there are times when our news brings a devastating blow that can knock the wind out of the strongest sail. This presentation shares the preparation and planning process assessing with a goal of providing helpful aids to allow all healthcare professionals to better deliver that which is referred to as "Bad News".

The Healthcare Hall of Fame

This exciting interactive celebration of excellence will award and celebrate your amazing team while at the same time inspire them to take caring to the next level because good enough never has really been good enough. Team praise and accolades encourages us all to press toward the mark of excellence. Having an everyday goal of being someone's hero and being successful at making a difference places you in the running for 'Oscar winning performance' which will place you in the Health Care Hall of Fame. During this presentation attendees will be in the running to be awarded with their very own "Oscar." Yes all this just for your exceptional performance.

How We Manage to Survive Change

Our world today seems to be immersed in change. Professionally speaking change is an expectation and yet many times we struggle to manage it. The stress of change can create a hostile environment of frustration; the work environment become stressed by change, team members don't comply with change, Leadership fail to communicate the change… shall I go on. We pride ourselves with being very knowledgeable creatures and yes creatures of habit none the less. We fit well in our comfort zone, performing our day to day task becomes like a dance… like the Basso Nova sheer beauty and then…what's this someone changed the music and why!? We are good ones for saying if it isn't broke don't fix it! But we know all to well that change is necessary, it that change is progress but if it involves us making it happen we most times are not happy. So sense the next change is right around the corner let's prepare to meet it with a different outlook. Let's change how we make change happen. We are not afforded the luxury of being on cruise control and the truth of the matter is the majority of change is always for the better and eventually appreciated. So this presentation will work with what I refer to as the growing pains of change; how change is communicated, how we are held accountable, team buyin to the change, compliance, consistency, decreasing the stress of change, and recognizing the value of change. Because we can manage to survive CHANGE and the stress that it can surely to bring.

Bridging the Generation Gap

Spans of time grouped in about twenty year increments have produced several amazing generations of incredible individuals. Each one so very different from the other, and this has introduced a very unique Frustration in the work place among professionals? "Why do they always…?" "Don't they ever…" "if only they would just…" "I can't tolerate these people any longer…" Our diverse differences can have a crippling effect on our performance and can generate poor internal and external customer satisfaction so let's consider bridging the generation gap and allow ourselves to see each other through different eyes – understanding each generation's professional contributions and the necessary efforts that we must give to satisfying the multiple generations that we all serve has to start by looking back in times and assess why we are who we have turned into and the unique differences of our: Veteran and Baby Boomer Generations as well as our X, Y, Millennial generations, and perhaps we can scratch the surface of the generation next in line and how they may present. We want to reveal for a better understanding our differences at the same time unwrap the gifts in all of us as we begin to fill our gaps and commit to learning how we can appreciate each other for what we all bring to the table.

Burning Down and then Out

…there you are just doing your thing, taking care of business, managing situations, making a difference, going 90 mph and then you thought you smelt, 'something is burning…' after a frantic search for the burning embers you felt the heat, smelt the smoke and found the flame… and it is you!!! You are burning down and soon you will burnout.

Self-preservation is critical for those who serve and care for others, Your commitment is unselfish, your passion is personal for serving others, and then there is your undying dedication. These are some of the most admired traits in existence however the same commitment and qualities that make us so valuable can and in many cases has turned into stress and stress has a cousin named 'Burnout' who carries a reputation of personal and professional destruction: Burn out destroys careers, dreams, hopes, aspiration and opportunities. Let's take a chance on putting out the flames of Burn Out, let us assess what it's all about to gain and individual understanding of how we can best defend against it and save ourselves so we can get back to saving the world.

Surviving the Stress of Being a Survivor

You are a survivor from day one and every second after it has become one day at a time. Enduring what has been described by some as the longest roller-coaster ride imaginable, yet when we dismount the ride we remain somewhat vulnerable which brings us to a sneaky little word called stress. Stress is a significant character that plays a mysterious role in the 'who done it' of our body's. I invite you to discover who stress is, the affects of stress, where stress may come in and where it may have come from. Turning the light on stress may enable us to avoid it and its lasting sometimes debilitating effects. We shall also see the benefits that it can bring. There is good and not so good in many things and stress is no exception. Let take a moment and give stress the attention it deserves, you've got to survive the stress of being a survivor.

The Unanticipated Journey of Being a Survivor

This presentation is dedicated to some of the most amazing individuals that I know, I personally call you My Survivors. You are the hero of those of us who have served you. You've become our light house of hope. You have an admiring audience from day one as we see your strength, hear your heart, and feel your passion to survive on this most unanticipated journey. The tears of a survivor are bitter and sweet and then bitter and sweeter. The journey takes place on a road that has many turns and is twisted and winding, it offers humility and strength, fear and great relief, sorrow and pain, wisdom and a carefree spirits. It is on this journey that the stride of each step changes to a different walk, sometimes the road dictates you walk a little faster, sometimes the road slows you down, it may have you walk alone or side by side. Through this – one of life's most unanticipated journeys you survived, and along the way you AMAZED the world. It will be my pleasure to celebrate our survivors because – you are the inspiration for us all.

Sensitivity with our Older Adults - "Take a walk in my shoes"

Awakening our awareness of our senior population, with a goal to improve the way we serve our older adult customers. Many times we are not aware of what our patients may be experiencing, and the little things that could decrease the unobserved challenges experienced in the process of routine activities. We will discuss some of the expectations, hardships, challenges, and stereotypes. This interactive presentation will allow us to experience taking a walk in the shoes of our older adults. The actress Betty Davis said 'Getting old is not for sissys,' and I say - No greater truth has ever been told. How many times have we failed to take into consideration that routine activities of daily living are not a matter of fact they can become a matter of challenge, and perhaps the most significant of all the aging conversions is when the quality of life changes from independent or dependent. Increasing our awareness will give us food for thought and alter our behavior and attitude, this hands on session is delivered to provide us with a tangible awareness for a better understanding of our older adults sensitivities because when we understand we know more, care more and do the right thing.

Managing Conflict with Wisdom: "C.P.R. Challenging Professional Relationships"

This presentation is exciting with its interactive participation; prepare to learn some things about yourself that you may not be aware of. Most people would really prefer not to deal with conflict, however conflict may be behind curtains number one, two, and three on any given day, causing you to wonder 'what's goin on!' There are those days when it seems everyone presents as a challenge or is out right angry, and you are quizzing yourself as to why? Often times you find yourself challenged to try and resolve their concerns. We will evaluate the significance of the person that leaves your establishment LOUD vs. the one who leaves silently. We will investigate how we can attempt to improve customer matters, and manage our daily challenges and the conflicts of others with wisdom and as a result we will learn how and why we ourselves deal with conflict in the manner in which we do as we task ourselves to improve the way we manage our Challenging Professional Relationships with our co-workers and clients.

To be exceptional we must have expectations, and let the TEAM know what they are because everyone that comes to work does not come to work. Be an everyday role model – everyday.  Identify the Values of Consistency.

Communication – Talking About Adherence

Adherence is an age old problem dating back to Hippocrates. This challenging presentation subtitled "Who fault is it anyway" will provide a better understanding of the terms Adherence & Non-Adherence. We will discuss how we can encourage our patients to comply with their prescribed regimen and treatment plans because Adherence is critical to their state of wellness therefore it is important to identify the many different areas of nonadherence which can lead to increased healthcare visits, longer therapy, and more hospitalizations, significantly impacting the cost of care. We will discuss the incidence of poor communication and how it can impact the many different forms of Nondherence, along with how to observe the risk factors, enhance our assessment Skills, discern the value of the follow up, see the rewards of Praise, and the results of patience.
